RECORMON EPOETIN BETA is a synthetic form of the hormone erythropoietin (EPO), which is produced naturally in the kidneys. It is a glycoprotein hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow.
RECORMON EPOETIN BETA is used to treat anemia caused by chronic kidney disease, cancer chemotherapy, and certain other medical conditions.
Mechanism of Action: RECORMON EPOETIN BETA stimulates the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow by binding to specific receptors on the surface of the cells. This results in an increase in the production of erythrocytes, or red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the body's tissues. The increased production of erythrocytes leads to an increase in the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood and improves symptoms of anemia.
Indications: RECORMON EPOETIN BETA is indicated for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease in adult and pediatric patients, anemia caused by chemotherapy in cancer patients, and anemia in patients with non-myeloid malignancies where anemia is due to the effect of concomitant myelosuppressive chemotherapy.
Dosage and Administration: RECORMON EPOETIN BETA is administered as a subcutaneous injection or intravenous infusion. The dose and frequency of administration depend on the patient's weight, the severity of the anemia, and the underlying medical condition. The recommended starting dose for adults with chronic kidney disease is 50-100 IU/kg body weight administered two to three times weekly. The recommended starting dose for cancer patients is 150 IU/kg body weight three times weekly or 300 IU/kg body weight once weekly. The dose should be adjusted according to the patient's response and the target hemoglobin level.
Contraindications: RECORMON EPOETIN BETA is contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled hypertension, known hypersensitivity to EPO or any of its components, or known pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) that occurs after treatment with EPO products.
Warnings and Precautions: RECORMON EPOETIN BETA should be used with caution in patients with a history of seizures, stroke, or thrombotic events. It should also be used with caution in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease, including congestive heart failure and myocardial infarction. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, hemoglobin levels, and iron status is necessary during treatment with RECORMON EPOETIN BETA. In patients with chronic kidney disease, the use of RECORMON EPOETIN BETA may increase the risk of cardiovascular events and death.
Side Effects: Common side effects of RECORMON EPOETIN BETA include headache, nausea, vomiting, fever, and injection site reactions. Less common but more serious side effects include hypertension, thrombotic events, seizures, and pure red cell aplasia.
Storage: RECORMON EPOETIN BETA should be stored in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F). Do not freeze. The product should be protected from light.
